The RSPCA has announced it will launch a probe after a woman was captured on CCTV putting a cat, Lola, into a large green rubbish bin. The middle-aged bank worker from Coventry was named as Mary Bale by The Sun newspaper as thousands of people joined a Facebook group demanding she face criminal charges for the way she treated the four-year-old cat, Lola. Ms Bale said: "I really don't see what everyone is getting so excited about - it's just a cat. "I don't know what came over me, but I suddenly thought it would be funny to put it in the wheelie bin, which was right beside me. "Everything has gone crazy because of a stupid spur-of-the-moment thing I did - but I know I only have myself to blame." Police have been posted outside the woman's home as a "sensible precaution". British Sky News reported that the woman was offered police protection because of the "level of vitriol against her". Ms Bale's mother, Celia, defended her daughter, saying: "She loves cats."
